Leadership appointment strengthens State Group’s executive team as the company continues to invest for its next stage of growth

The State Group, a leading North American technical services contractor, today announced the appointment of Mark Funk, P.E., PMP, as Chief Operating Officer, further strengthening the company’s leadership team as it positions the business for continued growth.

Funk brings three decades of engineering, construction, project execution, operations, and business leadership experience to State Group. He joins the company from Fluor Corporation, where he most recently served as President of its Advanced Technologies and Life Sciences business line, with responsibility for the strategic direction, operations, and financial performance of a global organization of approximately 3,000 salaried professionals and more than $3 billion in annual revenue.

“State Group is at an inflection point, and we are intentionally building the leadership team and organizational capabilities required for where we are going—not simply where we are today,” said Brian Jones, Chief Executive Officer of State Group. “Mark has spent his career building teams, leading complex operations, and delivering some of the most challenging projects in our industry. Just as importantly, his leadership philosophy is completely aligned with State Group’s people-first, values driven approach to our work, our customers, and operational excellence. We are humbled and honored to have him join our team, helping us unlock the tremendous potential ahead of us.”

During his career at Fluor, Funk held increasingly senior leadership positions spanning global operations, project management, construction, engineering, business development, and strategy. He has led businesses and major projects across North America, Europe, and Asia and has experience in a broad range of markets, including advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, data centers, life sciences, chemicals, and power.

Most recently, Funk was a member of the leadership team that helped grow Fluor’s Advanced Technologies and Life Sciences organization from approximately 1,000 to 3,000 team members while quadrupling revenue and profitability. His experience scaling organizations while maintaining a focus on project execution, safety, customer relationships, and talent development will be particularly valuable as State Group continues to expand its capabilities and market presence.

“The opportunity at State Group is compelling,” said Funk. “The company has a strong foundation, an outstanding reputation with its customers and, most importantly, talented people who know how to execute. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the State Group team to build on that foundation, strengthen our operating capabilities, and help position the company for its next stage of growth.”

As Chief Operating Officer, Funk will be responsible for leading enterprise-wide operations, shaping and executing the company’s growth strategy, overseeing all operating divisions, and facilitating the support they need to be the trusted partner of choice for our team members and customers. His appointment is part of State Group’s broader strategy to invest in the leadership, people and capabilities needed to support the company’s long-term growth and deliver increasing value to its customers.
