At The State Group, we are proponents of safe, quality workmanship which we consistently deliver with experience, integrity and personal attention to our clients’ expectations.

Our commitment to safety is much more than just a statement we include in our Health & Safety Policy – it includes continuous advancement, acceptance of ownership, contingency planning and training. We are very proud of our safety performance in both the United States and in Canada. Ours is a thorough program of perpetual improvement. We continuously assess and refine our processes to incorporate industry best practices that will ensure the safety of our employees and our clients. We believe that our commitment shows. We are very proud of our safety performance both in the United States and Canada which is backed by these core principles:

Training and Education:
All State employees receive comprehensive training that goes well beyond basic industry requirements.

Supervision Support:
Our supervisors also receive exhaustive training which is updated annually to ensure that their knowledge of safety policies and procedures remains current.

Field Support:
Coordinators are certified to “train the trainers” for both Internal Confined Space Rescue Teams and Internal First Aid Instructors.

Staff Development:
In order to preserve our culture and commitment, we have implemented an internal apprenticeship program for our safety professionals.

Our Culture:

Zero Harm – By shifting the focus from “zero injuries” to “zero harm”, The State Group has successfully encouraged employees to report all incidents regardless of severity. Reporting of “near misses” has allowed us to target and redevelop preventative measures.

Brothers Keeper – State rewards and recognizes employees who exemplify this principle.

Recognizing Safe Practices Similar to Brothers Keeper, State rewards those who reinforce safe work behaviour and practices.

Morale/Community Building – Site luncheons, barbeques, and other incentives are provided to employees, particularly after periods of zero frequency incidents.

Respect for All – All individuals have a voice, regardless of their status within the organization, and their suggestions are taken seriously. Typically, supervisors assume the role of mentor/coach for apprentices to educate and promote their safety.

 

Risk and Incident Management:

The State Group ensures employees have a thorough understanding of our Health and Safety Program in addition to core training provided at orientation. Certified Safety Coordinators provide a daily presence as on-site resources. Additionally, daily and weekly safety inspections and audits are conducted for hazard and root cause recognition as well as injury prevention. Comprehensive reporting and records-keeping enables monthly analysis to identify trends and determine the need for potential revisions to our programs and/or policies.
