DURHAM REGION 320,000 S.F. REGIONAL ADMIN BLDG.
LOCATION:     Oshawa, ON
CLIENT: Durham Region
VALUE: $9,000,000
TRADES: Electrical
DATE: 2005

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Durham Region required a single building to house all 13 departments of the regional government. Included in the wish list of the building was also the ability to provide temporary facilities for the Provincial Emergency Communications Center, the Provincial Courts and the Federal Emergency Task force. The distribution systems had to be designed to provide an N+1 emergency/UPS power system that could operate on a 24 hours basis for an extended period similar to the blackout of 2003.
The lighting systems design had to incorporate the latest styles and illumination levels and be able to create the `showplace` appearance that the Regional Government wanted for their new Council Chambers. Power grids were designed to allow for full call center requirements that could also operate on emergency systems for an extended period.
IT infrastructure was designed to allow the free flow of information between the departments, while still addressing the security involved with police and health department issues. In designing the system, particular care was made to incorporate the most up to date technology and provide flexibility to easily incorporate new technology in the future.

Audio visual systems for the training areas, meeting rooms and Council Chamber had to be able to fully integrate with the IT and lighting systems.
